
“Borealis” from Richard Murray – Engineering nightmare to sonic bliss!
Lookit, I want to turn you on to one, here. From a musical and songwriting view, Richard Murray's "Borealis" is fantastic; a tour d' force of alt country americana styles. From a production standpoint, this record could easily have been an all out nightmare! But somehow, Murray's team have built a masterpiece in composition and sound. I have one complaint in the mixing of the record. That's the drums in the opening track, but I dug the clean strat part a lot and it was a good tune, otherwise well-mixed, and cool lyrics that a person can hear. So I listened to all 5 minutes, and thought it was a bit long, too. But then I started getting into the next tunes and before I new it I was wrapped up in admiration of the whole package.
