This one is going to be short and sweet, folks. I think most of you ReverbNation users already know the basics of the rules changes, but for good measure… the obligatory header that reads…
ReverbNation – You must be a Fan to send a Message
Yep, you had to go and spam that message button to death! See what you got? Now, to send a fan a friendly “Thanks a bundle…”
You Must become their “Fan” first!
I’ve read the Reverb discussions, talked about it with a lot of folks, and I’ve seen Reverb’s replies to it. You can too. Just click the fancy link, here: reverbnation/topics
I have to weigh in and call BS on this one. It is ridiculous. But, hey, you know we’ll all roll with the punches and get on with it. Look on the shiny side, it just might slow down the spam.
Of course, you can still leave a friendly thank you in the comment section. They will be notified. Even if they don’t approve it, you have done your duty to be kind in return. And, folks, it doesn’t hurt anything at all to hit that fan button. Heck you may even play a song, and decide you like their music. If they turn out to be good friends, that’s Awesome! If they turn out to turn you off, remove them from your Favorites list. Done. Don’t feel bad.
That being said… Here are a few handy tips for ReverbNation.
If you have become a fan of an act on Reverb, you don’t Ever have to hit that button again, if you don’t wish. I don’t know if it is a glitch in the system that sends the message, “So and So and the Beanstalkers has become your fan …fan them back”, or if folks think they have to hit it every time they send a message.
If you become a fan a second time it will take you to adjust your fan settings, that is where you get the captcha so many have complained about . It’s there for good reason. You only get the captcha to adjust your fan settings.
Onward! Tip 2! (Trumpets: Da–dadaDAAAA!!)
If you want to build a strong, loyal, fun fan-base of friends and fellows in you industry, play nice. That means, you don’t need to say “hay, check out my songs, you gonna luv whut u here!” Everybody knows you would appreciate them playing your songs. Wouldn’t we all?
Just a “how are you doing?” will remind them of your presence, and is much friendlier than the above quote.
How do you get song plays? (#3) try this: sneak up in the dead of night and play some of their songs. (#3a) Hey, it might be cool to leave an encouraging comment. (again, Monty Python took care of the spam, so hold it in check.) (#3b) If you really feel springy, hit one of those handy share butons. Add a nice comment to it, and you’ll be amazed at the nifty things it does.
So there ya have it a short and sweet update on the new Reverb Rules (including the suweeet screenshot of the fansettings over the new profile view – ain’t that snazzy!) And three plus two makes it Five golden tips for increasing your fans, and loyal friends on Reverb Nation – all in one fantastic piece, if I say so myself.
Let me know your thoughts on these changes and share your tips for making friends in that awesome little comment box down there.
Y’all have a good day and make some more of that bang-up Indie Music!
Peace out - your Insomniac Jedi.
